It’s 4:02 am, Sunday, July 17, 2016 and Im up.

In about 4 hours I’ll be rolling out of bed ready to explore Chicago for one more day before heading home.

Time is ticking, but here I am.. up… writing about the film that literally had me chanting, crying and shaking on the couch in this airbnb apartment 52 stories high in downtown Chicago.

The movie is over, and now the city lights are speaking to me as I gaze out from the balcony. “Wake up. Write.”

The city…. 

As I sit here, I can feel the lake breeze, so cold the hairs on my arms are standing straight up. You could say I am inspired! You could say I am alive.

It’s just the city vibes, that feeling that makes you want to create, dream, and do. That lives here. Chicago didn’t birth, house and support some of the boldest, creative (albeit egotistical) or inspiring people for no reason! Think Kanye, Obama, Oprah, Michael Jordan.

The City

There is something special here. There has to be if it’s the home of the first skyscraper, Mickey D’s franchise, ferris wheel, deep dish pizza, vacuum, electric dishwasher, zipper, softball game and open heart surgery.

The City… 

It’s in this city on this beautiful Sunday morning that I watched the The Netflix original: Tony Robbins “I Am Not Your Guru.” If you haven’t seen it, stop what you’re doing and go watch it, like right now.

It’s awe inspiring, gut wrenching, soul searching goodness! I literally played it back a few times to make sure I got it!

Anyway, I don’t want to be up all night gushing about my obsession with all that is Tony Robbins and this film. #iwanttobehim #wewillmeet

I’m just here to give you a rundown of the flick.

First, the movie starts by informing you that people have paid over $4000.00 dollars to attend Tony’s “Date with Destiny” event. Some have even sold their belongings to sit in the presence of this man with the hope that they will leave with tools to transform their lives.

So basically, this man that felt such extraordinary pain as a boy was blessed with a few moments of indescribable grace, a little talent and a lot of heart; and now he’s changing the world, one fucked up person at a time. 

The film documents this 6 day event, which is more like a journey to everyone in attendance. The audience is forced to answer questions, do workshops in teams, share their stories and then watch Tony in an auditorium for as long as 11 hours a day.

You wonder how people could actually sit for such long periods don’t you? Watch the movie and you’ll understand!

As he picks one individual out of a crowd of 2500, he somehow makes their trauma, pain, and weaknesses so relatable to your own. Whether it be the masculine woman who needs to find humility so she can love and be loved; or the man who forgot how strong he was; or the girl who hated her father; or the man who was on the verge of suicide; or even the woman whose abusive childhood made her question everyone;  he somehow makes sense of it all. He does so not just for those broken people, but for everyone whose eyes are fixated on the event. He looks into your eyes, sees the pain and lays it out on the table so you can deal with it. No running! No hiding! Growth. Own your shit and grow!

He’s moving. He’s not just a motivational speaker, he’s not Jesus, he’s not God and he is certainly not your guru. He is love.

“Everyone has a question in life. Something that they ask more often than anything else. Your question becomes your focus and your focus becomes your destiny.” Tony Robbins

Are you good enough? Are you worthy of love? Will anyone ever love you? Will you ever measure up? Will it ever happen? Will it ever make sense?

You choose.

He’s deep. He’s so deep, he will leave you wanting to make the choices, wanting to create your life, wanting to become by choice and not by chance!

The film breaks into sections, hitting the topics that he knows is meaningful. Then you hear him, during the cuts and stops. You hear him giving advice that people paid $4000 to hear, and he’s sharing it freely to the Netflix community.

You wonder why he would share so much of his art so freely to you and me? Well he tells you. He’s doing it so someone will be inspired. So someone will live their destiny. So someone will look back in 10 years and realize that they arrived exactly where they wanted to!

I could literally go on all day, but I need rest! The point is that your life should be about nothing but watching The Netflix original: Tony Robbins “I Am Not Your Guru.” Until then, you’re basically just missing out on the movement that will be bigger than Trump, terrorists, protesters and hatred. Im talking Pokemon Go kinda big!
