“Girl! This is the third time I’ve been asked to run for mayor.”, I told my friend as I laughed.
“Well… I can see why..”, she responded seriously before discussing her admiration.
We joked for a while before coming to the conclusion. No! I don’t want to run for mayor.
A year or so ago, I was at a benefit for a local man. While I was mingling, the mayor of another city came in. I greeted him and we talked about life. Someone in his circle said Lake Charles needs someone like me as their mayor. “Run!”, he told me.
I ran… to Ocean Springs for a full life reset.
A few weeks ago a trusted community architect explained why he thought I’d be a good mayor. I laughed.
Today, someone close to me told me that I am running for mayor.
I shook my head and rolled my eyes. “I’m bisexual. I run with misfits, underdogs and outliers. I’m impulsive at times. I’m a little crazy! My beliefs would have these people scratching their heads. I see angels for Gods sake!!”, I told her.
“It doesn’t matter! You’re brilliant. You’re running for mayor!”, she replied.
“Hey Miss Mayor!”, I hear when I walk into Steamboats now. It’s cute.
Truthfully, I’m not running. It’s a flattering idea, but I believe you can make a bigger difference without red tape.
If someone came up and told me, “You should…”, I would remind them that they are just as capable of making a difference themselves.
We are responsible for the change we want to see. We can’t put that on anyone else. It starts with solving the problems in our hearts, homes and cities.
Anyway, all that mayor talk had me thinking about responsibility, choices and renovations to our mindset.
Every now and then it’s important to deep clean the thoughts and evaluate the truth about who we are and how we show up.
Life takes us through trials that refine us, and they don’t have to define us.
They are moments that open our eyes and have us lean into our beliefs like never before.
When you lean in you can finally see whether the belief is worth holding onto or if it’s holding you back.
“How does my life feel?”, “How do I want it to feel?”, I ask myself.
As we sit with those questions, we can quiet the doubts, the ego and the noise within our minds and trust that the answers will arise.
As we recognize what WE have created, we can begin to shift our intentions to something even more fitting for our future.
It goes beyond goals, aspirations and ambition. It’s about the emotional experience that shapes our beliefs, desires, character and essentially our destiny.
When we focus on an evolving emotional experience, we can make choices in the moment that will benefit our peace in the present.
Clarity removes the veil of confusion and anchors us right back into the heart.
“This isn’t working!”, I’ve admitted to myself over and over again. Whether it be a belief, a mindset, an attachment, even love, if it’s not working for you it’s just not working.
You can cling on or surrender. Either way the transformation is happening. Do you want it to be a bloody fight or a rebirth? That’s on you and your ability to trust what’s coming.
Over time, that awareness helps to create the boundaries necessary for you to find rest in the now even when you can’t control the outcome.
Life will life, how well will you learn to dance with it?
With the Deepest Love,
Paige Elliott
